Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “değersiz sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bentlanmasıyla oluşan gücük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok nüshada polipeptit zir birimi çitndırır). Baş ayırt peptitlerin gücük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, öteki amino asite daimî, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bentlanır. Polipeptid gestaltsına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri gestaltya peptid bentlarıyla bentlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, erkin amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öteki ucundaki erkin α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
